The term "Liturgy" originates from the Greek word λειτουργία, which translates to "action of the people." As stated in paragraph 1069 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, "liturgy" signifies "public work" and "service in favor of the people." In the Christian tradition, this means that the people of God actively participate in the "work of God." Through the liturgy, Christ, our Redeemer and High Priest, continues His work of redemption in and for His Church. He persistently brings salvation to a sinful humanity.

The Catholic Scout Liturgy (C.S.L.) draws inspiration from the Liturgy of the Hours, a profound way the Church engages with the mysteries of the passion, death, and resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ within the daily, weekly, and annual rhythms of time. In the C.S.L., we will incorporate prayers from the saints of the Church, as well as the rich praying experiences of Catholic Christians throughout history.

Saint Augustine eloquently reminds us that prayer is the key that opens the doors of heaven. Therefore, Saint Paul encourages us to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17), understanding that this practice transforms us into citizens of heaven. With this in mind, I present the C.S.L. to scouts around the world. This liturgy is straightforward and accessible, requiring only the Sacred Scripture (Bible). Engaging with the Bible daily allows scouts to meditate on the Word of God and recite the prayers of the great saints of the Church, thereby actively participating in the "work of God."

The C.S.L. serves as a powerful means to foster unity and communion among Catholic Scouts globally. As Saint Matthew reminds us, "where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am in their midst." This assurance reinforces the importance of community and shared faith. In practicing the C.S.L., scouts not only deepen their relationship with God but also strengthen the bonds of friendship and support among one another.

Ultimately, the Catholic Scout Liturgy offers an enriching spiritual framework that encourages scouts to live out their faith actively. Through the daily practice of prayer and reflection on Scripture, scouts can cultivate a profound sense of sanctification while fostering a sense of belonging to a larger community of believers. Let the C.S.L. be a beacon of light, guiding scouts on their journey of faith and service, as they embody the principles of the Gospel in their lives.
